Hi   If walking is your preferred exercise, you might want to try using a XLglider (available at QVC) of a Gazelle Glider available online at 1/2 the infomercial price. Both are easy to use and give one both upper and lower body exercise without much joint stress. I’ve used mine for 5 years and could not keep fit without it. I’m 57 and a type II. Have lost over 20 lbs since diagnosis in 2001 by upping my gliding and changing my diet! – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -> I am a 53 year old type 2 and feel better if I walk a lot but my hip joints > hurt a little. > Does this supliment realy help keep the joints healthy or is it just another > way to waist money? > Thanks, > Woody

I have used it with GREAT success. Took about 6 months to kick in, yes it is expensive, it did not do anything noticeable to my bg control (or lack of). I also take SAM-E. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text ->I am a 53 year old type 2 and feel better if I walk a lot but my > hip joints >hurt a little. >Does this supliment realy help keep the joints healthy or is it > just another >way to waist money? >Thanks, >Woody > Hi there Woody, > Various studies have been done and it is starting to look like there > is definitely some help for arthritic pain in these supps.  OTOH, > recent research has indicated that the glucosamine may very well > increase your insulin resistance, and thereby affect your bg > control. > An alternative that may help resolve this problem is a topical cream > that is available OTC that contains glucosamine, which is absorbed > through the skin.  One simply rubs it into the affected joint two to > three times a day.  A recent study that was done here in Australia > showed reduced pain levels within 24 hrs, and increased pain relief > with regular usage.  Another problem with oral administration is > that many tissues take up the glucosamine, and only a small portion > reaches the affected joint, whereas the cream puts the glucosamine > right where it’s most needed. > I’m using it myself, and found it helpful.  It’s easier than oral > meds, and if glucosamine proves to be of concern for diabetics, then > it’s a lot safer too. > Take care, > Annette > T2, 63 yo, arthritis sufferer. > — > Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. > Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com).

Hi there Woody, Various studies have been done and it is starting to look like there is definitely some help for arthritic pain in these supps.  OTOH, recent research has indicated that the glucosamine may very well increase your insulin resistance, and thereby affect your bg control. An alternative that may help resolve this problem is a topical cream that is available OTC that contains glucosamine, which is absorbed through the skin.  One simply rubs it into the affected joint two to three times a day.  A recent study that was done here in Australia showed reduced pain levels within 24 hrs, and increased pain relief with regular usage.  Another problem with oral administration is that many tissues take up the glucosamine, and only a small portion reaches the affected joint, whereas the cream puts the glucosamine right where it’s most needed. I’m using it myself, and found it helpful.  It’s easier than oral meds, and if glucosamine proves to be of concern for diabetics, then it’s a lot safer too. Take care, Annette T2, 63 yo, arthritis sufferer. — Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com).

Woody and ASD , I just bought a bottle of " Glucosomine "                           " chondroitin w/MSM" by SYMTEC tm At Rite-Aid drugstore , and wish they had it in liquid form like that Sooner ! Glucosomine with Chondroitin helped both my knee pain , and my Dogs arthritus ( as good as , or Better than the Anti-Inflamatory Vet meds ) at later years, I blended both in his dog food and he did well until he was 15 years old ! The stuff I got is good berry tasting , but you have to try a reduced dose and check with BG meter at first , because it has a little fructose . The appx. $10 bottle is goo for at least 15 days ! This stuff really does help some people to relieve pain, but it can also raise BG.  Best to talk to your Dr. about it.  My friend (also diabetic) takes it and it does raise his BG.  He simply takes more meds to compensate. Without it, he is in a lot of pain and not very mobile.  You might also consider taking MSM.  It’s a lot cheaper and it really helps me.  The cheapest source I’ve found for MSM (and most other supplements) is Costco. You can buy online if you’re not a member. — Type 2 http://users.bestweb.net/~jbove/

I take Osteo BiFlex and it works for me, and it worked really fast. They say within 4 weeks, but it started working for me within one week. I have problems with my knees and my right hip. It worked well for me when I was taking the gluc/chond. in chewable form.  I have yet to find a small pill form.  The pills I’ve found so far are so big that I have a lot of trouble swallowing them (even cutting them in half which they say not to do)…. so I stopped taking it.  If anyone knows of a small pill/tablet of gluc/chond., please let me know!   Mary

I am a 53 year old type 2 and feel better if I walk a lot but my hip joints hurt a little. Does this supliment realy help keep the joints healthy or is it just another way to waist money? Thanks, Woody

Response:

Glucosamine without chondroitin defitively does help me, but of course ymmv. Strictly I suppose it is not a supplement but a replacement for what should be there, but that`s nitpicking. For me, (stress me) chondroitin puts my bg`s way too high. — Al, Melton Mowbray, LADA Control Beef Lente 1x NR as and when I need
